Wildebeest Migration Tour

Your Adventure Awaits

Safari fly in drive out

The Serengeti wildebeest migration is a display of natural wonders. More than two million wildebeests, zebras, and antelope travel over 450 miles across the plain to ensure their survival. They are unaware of the dangers presented by the stalking lions, cheetahs, and other wildlife predators. Witness huge crocodiles of the Mara River as they wait for the herbivorous to cross the swollen river and enter into the Masai Mara Game Reserve from Serengeti National Park.

Tanzania is one of the best countries in Africa to witness the wildebeest migration. This tour combines Serengeti wildebeest migration with a cultural tour, as well as game drive viewing in the Ngorongoro Crater, Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Park. Accommodations, known for their cozy ambiance and facilities, will be at your choice based on your preferences. Indeed, this is a safari package with all the things you need for that well-deserved safari holiday.

DAY 1
Kilimanjaro International Airport – Arusha City

A staff member of Mamaland Expeditions will pick you up from the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). From here you will be driven to your hotel in Arusha and be given a briefing on your upcoming safari. Enjoy a restful night before beginning your adventure tomorrow!
Arusha, also known as “A” Town by the locals, is situated at the foot of Mount Meru, Africa’s 5th highest mountain. The altitude gives the city a pleasant climate and lush green environment.

Arusha is not a particularly attractive city in itself and is regarded by many visitors as little more than a necessary stopover before their safari starts in earnest. However, the natural charm of the Tanzanians and the buzz of a fast-growing city mean that Arusha has plenty to offer for those who are prepared to see beyond their air-conditioned safari trucks and satellite-TV equipped hotel rooms. (Needs a period at the end.)

DAY 2
Arusha – North Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, you will be picked up from the lodge and driven to the Arusha airport for your flight to the north Serengeti. After you arrive, proceed to a game drive in the wilderness, tracking the Great migration trails. In the evening, drive to the lodge for an evening leisure and overnight.
Witness a million (take “of” out) wildebeests, each one driven by the same ancient rhythm, fulfilling its instinctive role in the inescapable cycle of life: a frenzied three-week bout of territorial conquests and mating; survival of the fittest as 40km (25 mile) long columns plunge through crocodile-infested waters on the annual exodus north.

DAY 3

North Serengeti

Spend a full day in north Serengeti mostly exploring the Migration. (period needed) (You have an option of taking a Hot Air Balloon in this area.)
Serengeti National Park

Resident wildlife numbers are exceptionally high in the Wagakuria area, with prides of lion up to 30 strong. From July to October the area turns into a wildlife paradise! The key feature is the Mara River. It is not uncommon to see the herds cross the Mara River north (take out “on”) one day, and then back south a few days later. Please take note – to actually finding a crossing is very difficult and is sometimes a matter of luck.

DAY 4
Serengeti North – Serengeti National Park (Central)

After breakfast, you will be heading to the central Serengeti with a picnic lunch. Experience game drives en route and again in the afternoon. Then later proceed to the camp for evening leisure and overnight.
Tanzania’s oldest and most popular national park. A UNESCO world heritage site and recently proclaimed the 7th wonder of the world, the Serengeti is famed for its annual migration where some six million hooves pound the open plains. The Serengeti offers one of the most exotic game viewing experiences in the whole of Africa, giving you an up-close look at the animals you’ve only seen in National Geographic: great herds of buffalo, smaller groups of elephant and giraffe, and thousands of eland, topi, kongoni, impala and Grant’s gazelle.

This is an extensive highland area along the eastern arm of the Great Rift Valley, with the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater as its focal point. It is not a national park in the strict sense of the word, but was rather established to conserve wildlife and other natural resources. It exists to safeguard the interests of indigenous people as well as to promote tourism. Thus, guests on safari have the unique (what goes here? If there is an opportunity to see indigenous people as well as wildlife, say so here…otherwise you should take out the last sentence fragment and end on the previous sentence.)

Tarangire is the sixth largest national park in Tanzania after Ruaha, Serengeti, Mikumi, Katavi, and Mkomazi. Activities will include a wildlife game drive where you can see pythons climb trees, as well as lions and leopards, among others. For the bird lovers, keep an eye open for the screeching flocks of colorful, yellow-collared lovebirds, and the somewhat drabber rufous-tailed weaver and ashy starling. These are all endemic to the dry savannah of north-central Tanzania.
